Claudio Melotto

GUS AS A PHILOSOPHY FOR LIFE

Claudio Melotto

Born in Italy, in the Val d’Aosta on the border with France and Switzerland, Claudio Melotto began his studies in architecture, at the same time pursuing a variety of sporting activities in which he achieved numerous national and international successes (track and field, bobsled and car racing). Besides his passion for sport and the arts, Claudio Melotto has always had a unique sensitivity to the human condition, both at a socio-economic and at cultural level. This is a focus that reveals itself predominantly in his choice of an operating model based on an ethical vision of economics.

His entrepreneurial activity, tied to the hotel and real estate sector took him first to the French Riviera, then to the Czech Republic where he was able to develop original projects for the restoration of important historical buildings. In Prague in 1992, in the former house of the composer Antonin Dvorak, author of the New World Symphony, and on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America the idea for GUS (Global Universal Symphony) started to take shape.

Claudio Melotto’s ideas are always the fruit of his love for art in all it’s manifestations (paintings, music and sculpture) and his desire to experience open exchanges between diverse cultures. The creation of Tocco di pennello, inspired by Arcimboldo, a XVI century Italian painter working at the imperial court of Prague, was intended as an homage to art, to music and the strong cultural links between Prague and Italy. The desire to develop new models for education prompted him to found the Comenii Vinum, commemorating the figure of John Amos Comenius the father of modern pedagogy, and lead him to develop the idea of education centres for animation and cinematography, in collaboration with the French cartoonist Jean-Pierre Dirik.
GUS was a product of these programmes, a project which culminates in the creation of global villages for education in the arts and science: a powerful and ambitious idea that has occupied Claudio Melotto, in all its various evolutionary phases, for more than 15 years.

His participation in numerous international banking forums are notable, in particular that of Prague in 2004, during which the power of his ideas was clear and the relevance of his ideas has revealed, in light of more recent economic/financial events, a solid point of departure for a new vision of all human activity.
